May 2004 ~ Featuring Scott Howard
When Roger Bennett and Scott Fowler formed Legacy Five in 2000, they found two of their members from my home state of Louisiana. In fact, I already knew their baritone singer Scott Howard and didn't have a clue that he could even sing. I was surprised to say the least when I heard him for the first time. Not only could he sing, but he turned out to be one of the best baritone singers that I've heard! I hope you enjoy this month's insight into the life of Legacy Five's baritone, Scott Howard.

Scott Howard was born on September 14, 1959. He is the son of Ted and Jo Howard. He has one brother, Gene, and two sisters, Myra Howard and Teresa Enterkin. Scott and his wife Kelly were married on January 5, 1989. They have three children, Mallory (11), Grant (6), and Jenna (3). Scott is originally from West Monroe, Louisiana, but he and his family now reside in Thompson's Station, Tennessee.

Scott was saved in 1968 at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. He and his family now attend People's Church in Franklin, TN. His hobbies include mostly outdoor stuff like hunting and fishing. When I asked him if he had any collections, he stated, "I'm not a collector, my wife and kids collect enough for my share." Scott credits his parents as his biggest overall influence. Musically, he says that the Cathedrals were his biggest influence, with Roger Bennett being the conduit that got him involved with them. When he was 15 years old, Scott joined a local group from Louisiana. Later, he sang for about 15 years with a local mixed group in Louisiana called "Sonshine".

His first full time position came in January of 2000 when he joined Legacy Five. Prior to joining Legacy Five, Scott Howard was working for Roger Bennett. Scott was running the mail order office for Cathedral Quartet product and traveling with Roger on his solo dates. Scott jokes by saying, "When Roger and Scott Fowler decided to form Legacy Five, I was fortunate enough to audition and get hired before they heard any really good singers". On the road, Scott sets up and runs sound for the group.

Scott credits Kelly, his wife of 15 years, as the one who keeps their whole family running. Scott says "Since I'm on the road so much, she not only keeps our household going, but somehow manages to home school our three children, as well as head up our home school co-op of about 80 other children. She is my hero! We have three great children. Our oldest is Mallory, who is eleven and acts fifteen. She is quite the musician and singer. Her days are filled with piano lessons and even some studio work on children's records and videos. We are hoping that she can fund her own college! Grant is our six-year-old son. Time or space does not allow a very detailed description of this child. He is all boy! We have determined that he has his dad's warped mind and his mother's plainspoken mouth. He keeps us on our parental toes. Jenna is our three year old. She came to our family in May of last year. Kelly and I traveled to Magadan, Russia, to adopt her from a small orphanage in the Siberia region of the country. We have marveled at the progress that she has made in these few short months. She already has a command of the English language and has become a loving member of our family. Add a dog (Maizey), a cat (Sassy), a bird (Skittles), and a few assorted chickens, and that makes up the Howard family…E-I-E-I-O…"

Legacy five is now in their fifth year, and you can visit them online at: www.legacyfive.com. Be sure to pick up some of their music when you get a chance and go see them in concert. As I've said many times in the past, Roger Bennett is my biggest influence and my favorite pianist. He and Scott Fowler have assembled a great sounding group full of great Christian men. Roger has a website of just his piano product and he keeps an online journal at: www.rogerbennettdirect.com. I hope you have enjoyed reading about another good friend of mine.
