A Visit With Lee Greenwood & Friends
August 25, 2003

From L-R: Randy Shelnut Jr., Stewart Varnado, Lee Greenwood, Pauline & Jim Payne...A while back at a concert in Florida, I met Jim & Pauline Payne.  We have became good friends and they started showing up at several Dixie Echoes concerts.  They are from Tennessee but they enjoy traveling so they follow Gospel Music across the country.  They were big Cathedral fans and great friends with Glen Payne (no relation however).  After meeting them a few times, they began to tell me about how their daughter was once Miss Tennessee, then later how she married performer Lee Greenwood.  Although he has had many number one country and pop songs, most folks remember Lee Greenwood from his huge hit "God Bless The U.S.A."  Here lately, I have been getting to see Jim & Pauline just about every month, and we had made plans to spend the day together on August 25.  Well, they showed up at the bus to pick me up for lunch, and they had brought along their son-in-law, Lee.  In 2002, Curb records released a Gospel album titled "Inspirations Songs" featuring 11 Gospel songs including: How Great Thou Art, Rock Of Ages, You'll Never Walk Alone, One Day At A Time, Amazing Grace, and more.

Stewart Varnado & Lee Greenwood...It was nice to meet Lee and spend some time with him, and I thought I would share my visit with the viewers of my website.

Stewart Varnado and "Little" Jan Buckner
Jan sang for many years with the late Wendy Bagwell as part of The Sunlighters

Stewart Varnado and Big Jim Hamill...Jim is another Southern Gospel Music legend. He is most remembered for his many years with the Mighty Kingsmen Quartet!
