May - June 2004

On May 13, 2004, the Dixie Echoes sang at Decherd Church of the Nazerene in Decherd, TN. Their church pianist was none other than Rosa Nell Speer Powell, of the legendary Speer Family. It was an honor to meet her and spend some time with Rosa Nell. She is one of the best convention style pianists around!

L-R: Scoot Shelnut, Stewart Varnado, Jim Payne, and Josh Garner (Florida Boys). Jim is a great friend of ours from middle Tennessee. He and his wife Pauline, along with their daughter Kim and her husband Lee Greenwood, and their two boys, put up with me, Scoot, and Josh for a whole day on June 30, 2004. Jim brought us all shirts to wear. We are wearing them in the picture above. The shirts read, "God Bless The U.S.A." with the American flag and Lee Greenwood's autograph below it.

Stewart Varnado and Doug Carter visiting after the concert. I first met Doug when he was playing for the Nelons. He is now the pianist for Lee Greenwood.
