August 2004

The month or August started off for me with a session at Red Hill Digital Recording Studios in Temple, Georgia. We were recording tracks for a musician from California. For more info on this studio, be sure to visit www.redhilldigital.com

Here's Ricky Free (of Brian Free & Assurance) hard at work. Ricky is an awesome drummer and fun to work with.

Randy "Scoot" Shelnut Jr. played bass on the session. The three of us (Ricky, Scoot, and Stewart) enjoy working together in the studio, we have lots of fun!

Here's the owner and engineer at Red Hill Digital, Jason Singleton. I will be featuring Jason in my October 2004 US Gospel News article, so be on the look out for that. I also post my articles online in the newsroom.

GRAND OLE GOSPEL REUNION 2004

Last year, Charlie Waller chose five guys to perform as the "Grand Ole Gospel Reunion's Five Blind Boys". It must have went over well, because folks cheered us on as we did it again this year.

We performed the Oak Ridge Boys hit "Go Out To The Program". The Five Blind Boys are: Mike Franklin (tenor for the Melody Boys Quartet); Stewart Varnado (very bad singer in general); Buddy Burton (former member of the Statesmen Quartet); Gene McDonald (Bass singer for the Florida Boys); and Jonathan Sawrie (former lead singer for the Melody Boys)
